Papasan Chairs – Comfortable and Portable

Papasan chairs have been used since time immemorial in far Eastern countries like Thailand and Japan. However, these chairs only became a part of the mainstream furniture market in the 1970s. A papasan chair basically consists of a relatively large round bowl-shaped chair with an adjustable angle. Papasan chair cushions are usually placed on the bowl of this chair which is supported by an upright frame. Traditionally, these frames were made of rattan. However, in today’s day and age, wood, wicker, and stainless steel have also proved very viable alternatives.

The larger variant of the papasan chair is called the double papasan chair which can seat up to two people with ease. As the name suggests, this variant is much smaller than the standard papasan chair and is typically used for seating babies or young children. Moreover, since the cushions can be outfitted with a variety of colored covers, parents tend to outfit their kids’ rooms with brightly colored papasan chairs.

As mentioned previously, the papasan chair is not complete without a cushion. This cushion is therefore, a very fundamental part of the papasan chair. Papasan chair cushions are available in a number of standard sizes and come in a plethora of different fabrics which include polyester, canvas and cotton and so on. The cushion can be placed on the bowl shaped seat at any angle the user desires. Papasan chair cushions are particularly comfortable which is why people can continue sitting on papasan chairs for hours on end without feeling uncomfortable. This is a claim that will be echoed by anyone who has ever owned a papasan chair.

Obviously, papasan chairs have a number of advantages over normal chairs. They are very portable and require almost zero maintenance.  Cushion covers can be used to prevent them from getting dirty and the entire cushion can be removed at will with ease. Since the frame is usually made of wood or wicker, these chairs are also very lightweight. This serves to make them all the more portable. A papasan chair is truly one of a kind.
